The great history

Known as the Canadel Priory, our Abbey was founded by the monks living on the Lérins Islands between 1150 and 1200. Originally part of the greater Lérins Abbey, a Cistercian monastery situated on the island of Saint Honorat off the coast of Cannes, our Abbey is today classified as an historic monument thanks to its original architectural characteristics, such as a secret chapel built to the glory of Saint Elizabeth.

Initially designed to lodge Bishop Abbé on his way to the annual episcopal conference of Catholic bishops in Vence, our Abbey quickly became an ideal accommodation for the bishops during the coldest season. Monks and bishops left during the 1789 French Revolution and the Abbey became privately owned.

Our story

Although we enjoyed owning and managing a large resort for more than 10 years, we decided to follow our passion elsewhere and found a perfect match in this Abbey.

Delivering and giving “hospitality” its true meaning remains our goal, but this time, in this warm place full of history.

We turned our dream into reality in July 2021 thanks to the support of our family, full of dedication and passion for the hospitality industry. Like us, you will fall in love with our property.

Charlotte.

The Surroundings

Ideally located between the sea and the Alps, by the world-renowned village of Saint Paul de Vence, the Fondation Maeght, the glamorous French Riviera beaches, and of course, the Nice International Airport, La Colle-sur-Loup represents the authentic charm of Provence. The sun shines year-round in this quaint village blessed with natural heavens. The lovely river that gave the town its name, le Loup, flows directly from the surrounding mountains and offers a perfect blend of sport, nature, and tranquility. The village itself with its cobbled streets, crafted wooden doors, and flagrant flowers represents the authenticity of the Provençal architecture.

We look forward to welcoming you!
